2022 International Students Sports Day

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Yeungam Univesity, Internationl Student Sports Day was held on 18 May 2022. Two hundred students from 39 countries participated, including all the first-semester students at PSPS. There were four teams, each named “Sharing,” “Service,” “Creativity,” and “Contribution.” These names represent the university's core values. After competing in 15 sports, including rugby ball rolling, tug-of-war, and relay running, the team “Service” took 1st place.

2022 SEMINAR WITH MASTER GRADUATES

PSPS students participated in a seminar provided by the PSPS graduates on April 29th. The seminar was conducted separately by two graduates. Firstly, it was conducted by Arthur Rexford, a graduate of Ghana. He applied a project that had won the second prize in the action plan contest to the local area. Rexford presented how he incorporated the Saemaul theory that he had learned at Park Chung-hee Saemaeul Graduate School into practice. His project has significantly improved villagers’ income and quality of life. Secondly, Thuzar Soe Htoo from Myanmar conducted a seminar. She talked about her internship experience at PSPS and Gyeongsan City Hall, discussing Korean work culture. Through this seminar, current students have learned how PSPS education is applied and utilized in reality.

[PSPS Distinguished Lecture Series] Special Lecture by director of KOICA Social value & Innovation management team

A special lecture was conducted by Sang-won Moon, Director of the KOICA Social Value & Innovation Management Team, on 27 April 2022. The lecture for the students was entitled “Implementation and Achievement of SMU Project.” Director Moon introduced a successful case of a rural community development project in Myanmar using the Saemaul Undong in Korea.

[PSPS Distinguished Lecture Series] SPECIAL LECTURE SAEMAUL UNDONG: PRINCIPLES AND IMPLICATIONS

Dr Kim Kisu, the former Dean of PSPS and current Director of Institute for International Development Cooperation, gave a special lecture to PSPS students on April 15, 2022 The lecture was given to enhance the students' understanding of the spirits and principles of Saemaul Undong.

2022 PSPS Orientation

On 25 March Dean of PSPS Yi held an orientation for 41 new students. This year's orientation was held two months earlier as immigration was smoother than last year despite the ongoing Covid pandemic. Dean Yi introduced the students to the history of Yeungam University and its facilities, including PSPS, and advised them on things to keep in mind as a student at PSPS. The students said they found the orientation helpful and were happy to learn about Korea and Yeungnam University.

2021 Special Lecture by YU's president CHOI-OE-CHOOL

The fourth Semester students attended speiccal lectureswith President Choi on 25 March, 2022. The lecture for the students was entitled "The Saemaul Story: the Experience of Korea Becoming a Developed Country from Least Developed Country.” The students had time to strengthen the Saemaul spirit once again before returning to their home countries. They took a commemorative photo with the president individually.

2021 Action Plan

During the third semester at PSPS, all students participate in the competition of Action Plan Writing to execute the practical knowledge acquired in previous semesters. It is one of the most interesting activities at PSPS since all students look forward to producing the best result. This year, six teams won the competition held on Jan. 19, 2022. A team of DALAPHONE DOUANGSOULIYA , MWAIKAMBO PRISCA AMBOKILE, EISSA TAHER GURBAL YOUSEF, and ONGGE IZAK SEMUEL got third prize with “INCOME INCREASE FOR THE LOCALS AT MAFIA ISLAND THROUGH TOURISM.” Another team of NAING LIN TUN , NILAR OO , LA MIN THAN , and WAI PHYO also got third prize with “Disaster Reduction Management in Pakokku Township, Myanmar” The other team of KEVIN ALLOTEY , ALLEN TUMUSIIME , NASSIR ABDALHAG , and JOHN OFORI DAMAOH also got third prize with "WATER SUPPLY (RUBAARE T/C, UGANDA)" The second prize was awarded to the team of MLENGA ANNETT,MKANDAWIRE VITUMBIKO, MULIMA IDAH, and ULEDI MPHATSO BANDA with “Community Cooperatives for Ending Market Challenges for Farmers and Sustained Livelihood in Mchinji District, Malawi." Another team of SUN LYHONG, HORSOMBAT AUNSHULEE, APPIAH RICHMOND, and QUESADA ZUNIGA MARIA REBECA also got second prize with " ICT Application Project for reducing health problems of workers in pineapple field and improve education for Buenos Aires’ community in Costa Rica " The first prize was granted to the team of BROCE CHACON VITA GLORIANA, PHYO MYAT PAN, VU XUAN HUONG and CONTEH HAJA SORIE with “Strengthening and Empowering Youths’ Capacity and Skills in Puntarenas Province , Costa Rica”

2021 International Saemaul Development Conference

2021 International Saemaul Development Conference was held in the Cheongdo on November 23, 2021. This year's conference was held online and offline at the same time, including online participation through Zoom and live broadcasting through YouTube as well as the conference site due to the COVID-19 situation. The theme of this year's conference was "International Development Cooperation in the World after COVID-19: Implications for Saemaul Development," and it was about the direction of effective international development cooperation after the COVID-19 Pandemic. “Saemaul Club” Launch Ceremony

On November 18, 2021, students participated in the Saemaul Club launch ceremony. The club members plan to participate in global social contribution activities such as overseas volunteer activities and international development projects. Saemaul Club consists of about 50% of domestic and 50% of foreign students, and is expected to contribute greatly to expanding multicultural understanding as well as practicing Saemaul spirits.

Special Lecture from Dr. IHN Yohan(John Alderman Linton)

Dr. IHN Yohan (John Alderman Linton), Director of the International Health Care Center, Severance Hospital of the Yonsei University Health System, gave a special lecture at Yeungnam University. The special lecture was held on November 10, 2021 at Convention Hall, Cheonma Art Center, for two hours on the theme “Understanding Korea.” "I think the development gap between South Korea and North Korea has a big difference in leadership. President Park Chung-hee's leadership laid the foundation for Korea today,” he said. He shared the importance and necessity of Saemaul Movement with students.
